On Wednesday March 12th we hosted MRVP Cookie Day at Church on the Hill Boston. This event was started by Homes For Families as a way to remind legislators to support the Mass Rental Voucher Program by giving each legislator a house shaped cookie.
Over 100 Advocates, MRVP recipients, and legislators showed up for the speaking program from 10am-12pm to hear why the program is so important. Afterwards teams headed to the state house to deliver the cookies. Thanks to all of our attendees we delivered a cookie to every office. We are asking legislators to support increasing the program to $300 million and codify the program.
For our MRVP champion we gave the "Big Cookie Award" to Senator Lydia Edwards. She has been a champion for housing since her days at the Boston Office of Housing Stability and then Boston City Hall as the District 1 councilor. Now as a senator she continues to support the need for more stable and affordable housing across the state of Massachusetts.
Thank you to our partners 2Life Communites, EMPath, CHAPA, First Church in Cambridge, The Boston Foundation, and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless for their support in making this event happen.
Thank you to our legislative speakers Senator Lydia Edwards Senator Joan Lovely, Senator Julian Cyr, Representative Adrian Madaro, and Representative Richard Haggerty for all of their support and leadership for MRVP. We look forward to our continued partnership in getting bills H.1547 and S.1008 passed.
A special shout out to Haley House for the delicious house shaped cookies, MA State House cafe for providing lunch, and Church on the Hill Boston for being gracious hosts.
