On September 19th, the Forbes Building Tenants Association met with City of Boston Chief of Housing Sheila Dillon to discuss the long-term affordability of the Forbes Building. MAHT has worked with tenants at the Forbes for the past several years to preserve the building as long-term affordable housing, especially after the building's 13A mortgage expired in 2022. Thanks to our advocacy to Save Our Homes, the owner has proposed extensive renovations that would preserve the building's original income profile, and allow low-income seniors and disabled tenants to stay in their long-time homes.
Among other provisions, the plan calls for the State Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities to designate 88 project-based MRVP vouchers to subsidize low-income tenants at the building. Stay tuned as MAHT and the Forbes Building Tenants Association continue to advocate for approval of the voucher request, as well as much needed repairs to the building!
