On Tuesday February 18th, MAHT had a big presence at the Boston City Council for a hearing on the FY26 budget. 6 people from MAHT spoke about the importance of affordable housing and the need to invest in the City Rent Subsidy Program (CRSP). The City Rent Subsidy Coalition is seeking a $5 million dollar increase over the current $12.75 million investment. MAHT is grateful to the many groups that spoke in support of affordable housing and increasing the CRSP.

Last budget season, tenant leader Domingo Citron testified at the Boston City Council about the need for more investment in the CRSP. He was one of a few people who stayed for a marathon hearing that went until midnight. Tuesday night council president Ruthzee Louijeune recognized Domingo who testified again and gave him a shout out for his testimony almost a year ago. His testimony is a prime reason why the program got an increase last year.

Here's Where You Come In

With how things are going in Washington there is even more of a need to invest in the CRSP. We will need tenants and advocates from Boston to take part in the FY26 budget process by giving testimony to advocate for this investment. Domingo is an example of how powerful testimony can move the city council and your testimony can help house more people in the city of Boston. We will make sure to let people know when we need you to join us at City Hall to have your voices heard. The budget process has just began so there is plenty of time to get involved. If you are interested in getting involved feel free to reach out to our office.
